This was a very memorable day for Elvis and the group. Elvis concluded the engagement by arriving on stage for his final show on Lamar's back with a toy monkey attached to his neck. (photos) Then he joked around with the crowd, tossing back and forth on a bed (provided by Sonny on stage), while singing "What Now My Love". When the band began to play "Suspicious Minds", Elvis began to sing "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Elvis introduced a number of people that included actors George Hamilton, Bill Cosby, female vocalists Bobbie Gentry and Shirley Bassey, his manager Tom Parker and finally his father Vernon and girlfriend Linda Thompson. He even mentioned that a hotel employee was being fired and the Hilton's should know better. At the end of the show he tried to make up for this by stating: "I know we kid a lot and have fun and everything, but we really love to sing, play music and entertain people, that's the name of the game. As long as I can do that, I'll be a happy old sonofabitch." The Colonel was not pleased at all, by Elvis' behaviour, especially the stuff about Barron Hilton and they even got into a public argument, shouting at each other in the dressing room while a lot of group members present at the time.

Later that night Elvis fired the Colonel, but the Colonel had already quit himself. He wanted all the money Elvis owed him and then he moved to his suite to draw up the bill of payment. He gave it to Jerry Schilling to pass on to Elvis.
