"A Day in the life"
1973
1973 began with the ground breaking "Aloha From Hawaii" show beamed by satellite around the world. It was followed by the usual two stints in Vegas, one in Tahoe and many tours on the road. For the first time in years, there were no movies releases. Elvis' personal life began to effect his professional one when he began cancelling shows due to ill-health and the signs going forward weren't full of promise. The divorce to Priscilla came to fruition and some strange decisions were made that included the buyout by RCA of Elvis' back catalogue and the firing and re-hiring of Colonel Parker. In between all of this, two recording sessions at Stax Studios in Memphis. There was a big change in Elvis' mood in '73 with his dependence on prescription drugs really coming to the fore. Two things remained constant, his love for his daughter and karate seemed to bring out the best in him. His grandfather Jesse (Vernon's dad) passed away this year.
