Christmas at Graceland. When it came time to hand out gifts, Elvis jokingly distributed McDonald's gift certificates to

everyone before revealing his real presents. Although everything seemed normal, in retrospect many of the guys said

that Priscilla and Elvis appeared distant over the Christmas holidays.

Elvis hosted a small New Year's Eve party at Graceland, not at a local club as he had done in the past. 


His accountants reported that in 1971 his personal income from motion pictures was $114,000, while music and recording brought in $1,200,000 and personal appearances $2,700,000. He paid $1,300,000 in income taxes.
