Rehearsals started at M.G.M's Studios, Stage 1 in Culver City for Elvis' third engagement at the International Hotel. They were being filmed by M.G.M. to be included in a new documentary. Elvis rehearsed some songs that included the recent Nashville sessions in June as well as his recent hits. Texan drummer Ronnie Tutt was now brought to replace Bob Lanning in Las Vegas. Soprano Millie Kirkham was also added to the lineup.

RCA released Elvis' new single with both songs taken from the Nashville sessions in June. "I've Lost You"/"The Next Step is Love". (RCA 47-9873) The front sleeve was very basic with no photo of Elvis and the rear cover promoted the new upcoming RCA box set.
