"A Day in the life"
Elvis: "A Day in the Life" June 1, 1969, (Sunday)
Elvis wanted to make sure that his engagement in Las Vegas would be a successful one, so around this time through Tom Diskin, he started to contact various musicians about accompanying him. His first choices Scotty Moore, D.J. Fontana and the Jordanaires were unavailable due to heavy work commitments and the Blossoms were already employed backing up Tom Jones in concert. He even contemplated getting Chips Moman and the boys from American Sound, but the Colonel would never agree to that scenario. When he asked, Elvis was told that the best two guitar players out there right now were Glen Campbell and James Burton. Campbell was hitting the big time as a solo artist with much success, so Elvis rang James Burton and after a three hour conversation it was agreed that James would help putting the band together. Elvis said he would be flying out to Los Angeles in a few weeks and they would hold some auditions.
