SOUNDTRACK RECORDING SESSION: - (National General Pictures) "Charro!"

Stage 7, Samuel Goldwyn Studio - 1041 North Formosa Avenue, Hollywood, California. (7:00 pm - 12:00 am)

Musical Conductor(s): Hugh Montenegro.

Arranger(s): Hugh Montenegro - Billy Strange - David Gates.

Engineer: Kevin Cleary.

Musicians: Guitar: Tommy Tedesco - Guitar: Ralph Grasso - Guitar: Howard Roberts - Bass Guitar: Raymond Brown - Bass Guitar: Max Bennett - Drums: Carl 'Cubby' O'Brien - Piano: Don Randi - Percussion: Emil Radocchia

The intention all along was for "Charro!" to present Elvis in a straight dramatic role, but M.G.M. now called upon him to record a Mac Davis title song, along with one other number which in the end would not make it into the finished film. Arranger and producer Hugo Montenegro (whose "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," from the spaghetti Western of the same name, peaked at #2 on the pop charts earlier in the year) conducted the proceedings.

Songs recorded: "Let's Forget About the Stars" (track), "Charro!" (track)

MOVIE PRODUCTION: - (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) "Chautauqua"

Metro Goldwyn Mayer, 10202 West Washington Boulevard, Culver City, California. (11:00 am)

Elvis began pre-production for his new (and final) M.G.M. feature film, presently called "Chautauqua", where rehearsals started

at 11:00 am. The film was produced by Lester Welch and directed by "Stay Away, Joe" director Peter Tewksbury.

The Colonel expressed concern that the title will be difficult to advertise properly, and the name would have to be changed.

SOUNDTRACK RECORDING SESSION: - (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) "Chautauqua"

United Artists Recording Studio, 6050 Sunset Boulevard, California. (7:00 pm - 3:15 am)

Musical Conductor(s): Billy Strange

Engineer: Eddie Brackett.

Musicians: Vocals: Elvis Presley - Guitar: Jerry McGee - Guitar: Morton Marker - Guitar: Robert Gibbons - Bass Guitar: Max Bennett - Drums: Frank Carlson - Drums: John Guerin - Piano: Don Randi - Clarinet: Buddy Colette - Trumpet: Roy Caton - Trombone: Lew McCreary.

The "College Medley" consisted of many parts, one of them "Violet" was based on "Aura Lee" which also had the same melody as "Love Me Tender."

Songs recorded: "Chatauqua" (instrumental), "Clean Up Your Own Back Yard", "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot", "Signs of the Zodiac", "Almost", "College Medley" (audio)
