Elvis reported to National General for pre-production of his new film. Elvis and the guys (Joe, Charlie, Gee Gee and Alan)
occupied rooms on the second floor of the Superstition Inn outside of Phoenix, with a dining room of their own. Elvis arrived
sporting a beard for a movie that he hoped would offer a raw depiction of the early West but soon discovered that the production was in a state of confusion.

Because Elvis had already fulfilled his contractual obligations for the year to RCA with the release of four singles and two albums, the Colonel extracted an additional $10,000 before he permitted the release of two more singles from "Live a Little, Love a Little". Eventually one of these will be replaced by "If I Can Dream" from the television special. The Colonel also finally acknowledged what everyone had known for months, that there would be an album from the special, in exchange for another $10,000 payment to be shared and a $50,000 promotional fee to be paid to the Colonel alone. None of these payments were charged against royalties. In addition, RCA agreed to pay for the printing of 250,000 8x10 photographs, to be used as part of the Colonel's promotion.
