MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. ASSASSINATED: - (Memphis, Tennessee)
An event which Elvis took just as hard as John F. Kennedy's assassination five years earlier - but more personally because it happened in his hometown. Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech was one of Elvis' favourite rhetorical pieces, something he recited often over the years, but no more often than Douglas MacArthur's "Farewell Address." Dr. King was shot as he stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.
