Soundtrack sessions for "Frankie and Johnny" began at Radio Recorders from 7:00 pm to 4:00 am. According to Alan Fortas, Elvis was meant to lay down his vocals live, but "he threw a temper tantrum and [said] that he wasn't in any mood to record," so the band simply cut instrumental tracks. The group consisted mainly of the usual Nashville musicians, including Charlie McCoy (now a regular on guitar, bass and harmonica), with the addition of 'Tiny' Timbrell and transplanted Memphian Larry Muhoberac, who appeared on the 1961 Memphis charity concert billed as Larry Owens on piano.

Songs recorded: "Come Along" (track)"Beginner's Luck" (track), "Down By the Riverside/When the Saints Go Marching In"(track)
