Elvis' at the last-minute gift purchased from Harry Levitch included gold wristwatches, one with the initials "GK" (for George Klein), one with "EP" diamond rings, bracelets and charms, and a butterfly pin.

Elvis spent Christmas at home with family and friends. His entourage gave him a statue of Jesus, which they had
commissioned for $500 from a local artist. Picking up an Elvis' latest enthusiasm, Priscilla gave him a home slot-car
racing set, purchased at the Robert E. Lee Raceway in Whitehaven, where they had been spending much of their
recreational time since returning to Memphis. Elvis was introduced to slot-car racing in California, and like all of his enthusiasms he approached it with a passion that borders on monomania for a time.

Elvis had a small party at Graceland with food provided by Monty's Catering for $52.52. Sometime over this Christmas
season Elvis finally tried LSD under carefully controlled conditions. He had read about it for more than a year now and,
according to Larry Geller, like everything else Elvis did, "he tripped Elvis-style.... Several hours after we had started we
watched a science fiction movie, "The Time Machine", and sent out for pizza." Later, Elvis, Larry, Priscilla, and Jerry Schilling walked out behind Graceland and talked about "how lucky we were to have such good friends and about how much we cared about one another." So as far as anyone knew, this was the only time Elvis took LSD.

Elvis held a New Year's Eve party at the Manhattan Club once again for friends, family, and fans. Among the groups and singers that attended were a local rock group, the Guillotines, the Willie Mitchell Band with Don Bryant on vocals, local soul singer Vaneese Williams (who performed "Hound Dog"), and songwriter ("Hold On, I'm Comin'") David Porter.
