"Elvis' Christmas Album" was originally released in October 1957 (LOC-1035) with a different sleeve. It was re-issued later in October 1959 with the sleeve below using a different catalogue number; (LPM-1951). Record buyers could still buy either album but both were mono releases so these songs were not available in stereo.

"Devil in Disguise" was number one in Japan and Finland, while "Bossa Nova Baby" remained at number one in Hong Kong.

After a private screening of "Viva Las Vegas", Hal Wallis sent a long letter to the Colonel and expressed his concern over Elvis' appearance in the M.G.M. film. Wallis felt he no longer had a "lean, handsome, rugged Look" but was soft, fat and jowly with a hairdo that made him look as if he was wearing a wig that was painted too black. "I would appreciate it," Wallis wrote to his sometime adversary, "if you would have a talk with Elvis, as this is a very serious concern both for us and for him, as it could have a very detrimental effect on his entire career." He wanted to be sure that Elvis would be in shape to play the tough, hard-hitting character that he was slated to portray in Wallis' upcoming production, "Roustabout". The upshot of this and similar follow-up communications was that Elvis would be told he cannot bring his own hairdresser to the set, a decision with which the Colonel entirely agreed with. "You must strongly impress on your people in production," Colonel Parker advised Wallis in a letter some weeks later, "that they should only convey your desires . . . because if Elvis was not sure what someone was supposed to do and they asked him how he liked it, he naturally was going to tell them what he liked, regardless of the picture."
