Back in Memphis Elvis had more than a month off, due to a change in personal appearance plans. In combination with RCA, the Colonel had been working on a giant 43-city tour, which he billed as "The Biggest Tour Ever" and for which RCA, as promoter, would have guaranteed Elvis more than $1 million. RCA, however, got cold feet, and proposed that the tour be scaled back to eleven dates, and the Colonel, who believed firmly in the grand gesture, declined.
