To accommodate Elvis' insistence on traveling to Hawaii not by plane but by ship, the scheduled start of the picture was delayed. Elvis drove to Las Vegas, where he stayed at the Sahara Hotel.

The Colonel, who was already in Hawaii, had arranged for Elvis to take a helicopter from the airport to a hotel, where "the snow jobs will be set up." Eight thousand screaming fans and DJ Tom Moffatt (photos/video) were on hand to greet the star, and he lost his yachting cap, his diamond ring, and his jeweled tie clasp in the one-hundred-yard walk from the helicopter to the door of the Hawaiian Village Hotel, where he stayed on the fourteenth floor.

Location shooting in Hawaii.

Principal photography for "Girls! Girls! Girls!" began. Each morning Elvis' wardrobe was brought to his hotel before he was driven to the set for makeup. During filming Elvis practiced karate in his hotel suite, breaking as many as 40 boards a night, until finally Hal Wallis put a stop to the practice for fear his star would break his hand.
