1961

Elvis only performed live twice this year and both were benefit concerts. One took place in his hometown of Memphis, the other in Hawaii for the U.S.S. Arizona War Memorial fund. They would be the last concerts until he returned to live performing in 1969. Elvis still continued to enjoy massive chart popularity and had his biggest success on the movie screen with "Blue Hawaii." Unfortunately, this set a template going forward in establishing the "Elvis Presley Movie." The Colonel made sure that he and Elvis would be laughing all the way to the bank and kept an iron fist on all proceedings by keeping anyone of influence at bay.
