Radio Recorders, Studio 1, 7000 Santa Monica Boulevard, Hollywood, California. (10:00 am - 7:00 pm)
Producer: Steve Sholes.
Engineer: Thorne Nogar.
Musicians: Lead Guitar & Vocals: Elvis Presley - Electric Guitar: Scotty Moore - Rhythm Guitar: Hilmer "Tiny" Timbrell - Bass: Bill Black - Drums: D.J. Fontana - Piano: Dudley Brooks
Backup Vocals: The Jordanaires: 1st Tenor: Gordon Stoker - 2nd Tenor: Neal Matthews - Baritone: Hoyt Hawkins - Bass: Hugh Jarrett.
Elvis began his last scheduled recording session prior to his induction without Leiber and Stoller, whom Steve Sholes had been unable to contact. Jerry Leiber, whose innovative arranging skills Elvis was counting on for the session, was in a New York hospital with pneumonia and couldn't even consider traveling to Los Angeles. Elvis' first reaction was to postpone or even call off the session, but with induction imminent and the RCA obligation looming overhead, he returned to the studio with no real outside help.
Elvis worked from 10.00am to 7.00pm but got nowhere with "My Wish Came True" then he spent forty-eight takes on "Doncha' Think It's Time" trying to get a satisfactory take. Dissatisfied with that he then tried Hank William's classic "Your Cheatin' Heart" but again he was not satisfied with the result. The last song of the day was "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck", but Elvis struggled to cut what was intended to be the A side of his next single.
Songs recorded: "My Wish Came True" (unsatisfactory), "Doncha' Think It's Time" (two different spliced masters, one for single release, one for album), "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" (undubbed master) (audio)
