Colonel Parker suggested an idea for a movie to Hal Wallis. It would be set in Hawaii, since, the Colonel wrote,
Hawaiian music looked as though it may be the coming trend and there was no question that Elvis has the voice
for it. The story concerned a gang of unscrupulous promoters who conned Elvis into singing with some native Hawaiians while all the while surreptitiously recording him. The Colonel told Wallis he was also working on a second idea in which Elvis would play a foundling brought up by a band of gypsies who traveled around and slept outdoors - which would give Elvis a chance to play the kind of rugged character he would be good at.

Elvis returned to Bad Nauheim after finishing maneuvers in Grafenwöhr, just before he left he asked Elisabeth Stefaniak's
parents id it would be possible for her to come to Bad Nauheim and work for him as his live-in secretary. He told them that he needed help from someone who could speak, read and write both German and English to answer the stacks of fan mail that was being forwarded to Germany, by Colonel Parker.

Elvis hired a used white BMW 507 roadster sports car, (photo) which he actually thought he was buying, and by this time had already acquired a black Mercedes Sedan, and a Volkswagen Beetle, which Red and Lamar used.

PRIVATE HOME RECORDINGS (Exact Date Unknown) (were these songs even recorded in one session?)
The Hotel Grunewald, Terrassenstrasse 10, Bad Nauheim, West Germany.
Over the Christmas period, Elvis and his friends fooled around with the new tape recorder, that Vernon had bought, they taped themselves messing around while they sang old favorites, current hits, and new titles supplied by Freddy Bienstock. (audio) **These were home recordings made on domestic equipment and not intended for public use**
(I have separated the tracks for convenience.)
